Helpful Hints: Questions and Answers

What is a gallery wrapped canvas?

Gallery wrapping is used to describe a canvas where the canvas is wrapped around the sides of the stretcher bars (frame). This means the image on the front can continue around the sides of the finished product. There are no visible staples since it is secured to the back of the frame. This allows for a frameless presentation of the finished canvas photo print. Photobirdy offer the popular deep frame style (approx 1.5” deep). Photobirdy provides Deep Frame Gallery Wrapped canvas prints at low prices.

What is the best format for my photo to be in ?

Remember, the higher the quality photo, the better your canvas will look: for maximum quality set your digital camera to its highest setting when taking the photo. Do make sure your photos are 4MB or larger and at least 300dpi. We accept JPEG, TIFF, and BMP files. The best option is that your digital camera is 4 mega pixel or higher and you've taken the photo at the highest setting. If you're not sure about any of that, you can check the file size by right clicking on your image, then, click on properties, where the size will be displayed. Before you send any files check them and make sure they are high quality images with a high resolution.

Photo Tip

Remember the higher the resolution and the bigger the photo is, the better your canvas will look. You are enlarging a photo to a bigger size to be printed onto canvas, so it will be best if you provide the best quality and highest resolution you can. Choose your best photos and the ones you would like to see on the wall. Do remember too that we have to wrap the canvas around the edge of the frame so if your subject in the photo is right to the edge of any of the 4 sides of your photo, then maybe choose either Mirror or white wrap options. See below.

What types of wrapped canvas do you offer as an option?

We give you three simple choices and options to choose. You can have a picture wrap, mirror wrap or white wrap. You choose your option in the order process. Do choose carefully taking in consideration your original photo and how much space (or border) you have around you main subject (object or person). If the person, place or object in your photo original goes right to the edge of the photo: then you must understand when printing onto canvas part of that person place or object will go over the edge of the canvas and be wrapped over; So not all the image will be on the flat face of the canvas. So if this is the case, then choose mirror wrap or white wrap; where we add a further 2 inches to the canvas so your image remains on the front face.  See options page for more information.

How important is it I choose the right size of canvas?

It is very important for the end result. Look at the sizes we provide and the shape of the size. Basically you have 3 types: panorama, rectangle and square. So look at your original photo and choose which size or shape of canvas, best suits your photo. If you have a landscape photo (e.g. of your family) do not choose a square shape canvas (e.g. 5x5 or 8x8) as it will not fit perfectly and you could lose some of the photo image. If you have a photo that is not landscape (e.g. one person's face) then a square canvas (e.g. 5x5 or 8x8) is okay to choose. Our operators use their best judgment and experience to place the photo onto the canvas size you choose. By ordering from us you are agreeing to allow them to make those decisions for you. They are in the best position to make the decision how best to place the photo on the canvas size you have chosen; as they have completed thousands of these canvas prints. Whatever size you choose is the size you will receive so it is important to look at your photo and choose the correct size and shape of canvas. It is your responsibility to choose the correct sizes and by completing the order you are agreeing to our Terms. So to avoid any mistakes it is very simple just to check before you place the order and make sure you choose the right size and shape of canvas to fit the photo. Please go to Sizes and Prices to see the shapes and sizes.

My picture is not in a digital format?

Please scan at 300 dpi minimum, and save in JPEG format, then upload in the normal way.

Will the colours I see on screen be the same as the finished canvas?

Colours may vary slightly from computer monitor to printed canvas. We cannot guarantee perfect matches due to the fact that individual monitor settings can and do vary.
